In the U.S. there it is part of the culture that people see volunteerism not only as a way to benefit their community but it is also part of their resume building process and can enhance their careers by showing that they are actively involved in serving their communities.
Santa Cruz citizens in particular have a high interest in volunteering and the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center (SCVC) is a non profit organization that is actively seeking volunteers and matching up residents that want to volunteer with organizations, governments, and groups in need of volunteers. Before matching volunteers with organizations, the SCVC also provides lots of training along with effective feedback mechanisms to ensure proper matching of volunteers and institutions.
